An untreated anxiety disorder can make one more susceptible to developing a drug or alcohol problem. It can also trigger or worsen the following conditions teeth grinding, insomnia, digestive problems and depression.

People who have an anxiety disorder require professional treatment. In most cases, anxiety can be effectively managed with a combination of medication and counseling.

Antidepressants, Buspirone and benzodiapines are some of the medications that can be used to treat anxiety. Because these medications come with potential side effects, they are usually only prescribed for a short amount of time.

Preventing An Anxiety Disorder

There is nothing that can be done to prevent an anxiety disorder. Health experts are not able to identify a clear cause, so they are not able to make specific recommendations on preventing it. The best thing that people can do is get help early. They should also make sure that they avoid the use of drugs and alcohols because that can increase the risk of developing an anxiety disorder.
